A Life Well Lived I painted her toward the end of her life. I wasn’t interested in painting away the years. Every line in her face belonged there — each one holding a story, a memory, a piece of a life well lived. But what I wanted most to capture was what the years could never diminish: her joy. Beneath that wonderful blue hat was a woman still smiling at life. And perhaps that is the real beauty of growing older — when the face begins to tell the story of where we have been, while the eyes still reveal who we are. I especially like “A Life Well Lived” as the title for this one. It feels warm and dignified without making the painting about age alone.

Ace — Dressed for the Occasion A very special wedding portrait. 🤍 Ace wasn’t simply a guest at this wedding—he was part of the wedding party, dressed for the occasion in his tuxedo. I incorporated the couple’s actual wedding invitation into the background, surrounding Ace with the names, words, and details of the day. What began as a portrait became a keepsake of the celebration itself—capturing a beloved member of the family and a moment they will always remember.

I have always imagined the Assumption as a reverse Pietà. At Calvary, Mary held Jesus in her arms as He was taken down from the Cross. At the end of her earthly life, I imagine the tenderness reversed—Jesus carrying His Mother into Heaven. The Son who once rested in her arms now holds her in His. On this beautiful Feast of the Assumption, may we remember the promise reflected in Mary’s journey: that our true home is with God. Our Lady of the Assumption, pray for us. 🙏🏻
