Commissioning an original work of art is a personal experience. Whether you have a photograph, a memory, a space in your home, or just the beginning of an idea, JoAnne can develop it together into a piece you’ll treasure for years to come.

What can I commission?
JoAnne creates portraits of adults, children, families, and beloved pets, as well as wedding memories, memorial works, spiritual art, landscapes, and abstracts. She can also create a piece for a particular space. Unusual ideas are welcome.

Do I need to know exactly what I want?
No. A commission can begin with a photograph, a memory, or a simple idea that JoAnne helps develop with you.

Can JoAnne work from photographs I already have?
Yes. She can often work from existing photographs and combine details from several images. For some projects, new photographs may be arranged.

What materials does JoAnne use?
Depending on the piece, she works in oil on canvas, mixed media, and on paper. Abstract and contemporary works may also include acrylic or ink.

How long will it take?
Timing depends on the size, medium, and complexity of the artwork. If the piece is for a special occasion, mention the date during the initial consultation.

Can JoAnne help with framing?
Yes. She works with an independent professional framer and can help select a frame that suits the artwork and its setting. Framing is priced separately.

Are reproductions available?
Archival-quality reproductions may be available for certain commissioned works. JoAnne can discuss the options for your piece.

Do I need to live nearby?
No. If the commission requires travel for a sitting or photography session, any related expenses will be discussed and agreed upon in advance.

The Commissioning Process

1. Share your idea
Every commission begins with a conversation. We’ll discuss the subject, setting, mood, size, colors, and where the artwork will be displayed. You don’t need to have it all figured out before reaching out.

2. Gather references
You’re welcome to share photographs, meaningful details, and examples of my work you’re drawn to. When appropriate, we can arrange photographs specifically for the commission. I can also work from existing photographs, including several images combined into one composition.

3. Plan the artwork
Together, we’ll settle on the size, composition, medium, important details, and price. Once the commission is accepted and scheduled, a 50% deposit reserves your place on my painting calendar.

4. Create and approve
Each piece is created individually, so timing depends on its size and complexity. If you have a special occasion in mind, please mention the date during our first conversation. The remaining balance is due upon final approval of the completed artwork.

5. Bring it home
After final approval and payment, we’ll arrange pickup, delivery, or shipping. Framing assistance is also available if you’d like it.
